Return to Play Plan – COVID-19

Return to Play Guidelines

  • We will have all players follow Buhler Park and SPN Guidelines
  • All players must use the self-screening tool before attending their games. The self-screening tool is available here: https://sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/screening-tool/

  • If you have any of the symptoms named in the self-screening tool, you must NOT enter the park. If you have recently been in contact with someone experiencing these symptoms, you may NOT enter the facility.
  • Umpire will still hold “ground rules” with each team rep before the game with social distancing in place.

–     All bats must be displayed with the thumb print showing before the game for the umpire to check (so Umpire will not need to handle them)

–     Game balls to be supplied by the home team. They should be sanitized before each half inning starts, and when ever the pitcher feels it is required. The Umpire shall have wipes as well to sanitize any balls that go out of play and are then returned into play

  • Dugout benches and bleachers will be off limits at all ball diamonds. Players should bring their own chairs or seating.
  • If using a porta potty, we HIGHLY recommend bringing wipes and wiping any area you may touch before and after use
  • Scorecards- the team rep with verbally dictate their starting lineup to the umpire and any substitutions with give their name when they enter the game.
  • All players must accept the new online waiver forms that are available online. The league will send the links to all team captains and it will be their responsibility to add their players to their team online. Any players not registered will not be allowed to play.
  • Umpires will report scores to the League.
  • Spitting is not permitted and will be included in the regular league rules. Violations will be consistent with the profanity rule. Sunflower seeds, shelled peanuts (or any other shelled food products), chewing tobacco are banned from all diamonds and premises.
  • Teams must pick up all garbage after they are done their games.

SPN COVID-19 Game Related Suggestions

Follow all Government Health Regulations and Mandates

•    This includes Provincial, City and Municipal restrictions – all Laws and Bylaw’s must be adhered to at all times.

•    Leagues and Event Coordinators are advised to review with their local permit officers/municipal contacts their specific requirements to ensure they understand all necessary requirements. 

Personal Protection

•    Do not come to the game if you are ill, show any symptoms or have been around someone who is ill
•    The use of mask or face shield is recommended
•    The use of personal fitted batting gloves at all times is recommended
•    The use of individual antibacterial hand sanitizer is recommended
•    The use of individual bats is recommended
•    It is recommended that each team use their own set of balls, minimizing the number of people who touch the ball by half. 
•    Balls should be wiped before each inning
•    Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
•    Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or into your elbow when coughing or sneezing
•    Do not spit 
•    Wash your hands often

Arrival/Departure at the Fields

•    Leave facilities immediately upon game completion
•    There will be absolutely no congregating at parks, facilities or parking areas before or after your game.

Social Distancing During the Game

•    There will be a no contact, “no handshakes or high fiving” 
•    No warm up of any kind before games. 
•    Ground rules shall be provided to team representative before the game
•    The dug out will only be used by the on deck batter, or participants can distance accordingly to space available
•    Coaches will stand 2 meters away from 1st and 3rd base at all times, however, it is recommended that there be no base coaches
•    The catcher will stand at least 2 meters behind the strike mat
•    Immediately upon the completion of the game, all members will leave the diamond area
•    Spectators must sit socially distanced from team members and other spectators
•    It is recommended that spectators be kept to a minimum
•    It is recommended that children should not be left unattended while playing
•    No coaching conferences or group huddles
•    All garbage must be collected and removed by each team after the game

Umpires
•    It is recommended that umpires wear a mask or face shield
•    Umpires will provide further detailed ground rules on an as needed basis observing the necessary distancing before the game begins
•    There will be no exchange of lineup cards, teams will keep score with their own scorekeeping books
•    It is recommended that the umpire utilize a small notepad for necessary game management
•    Umpires will stand where they are comfortable calling the game, and at least 2 meters away from the catcher and batter.
•    Umpire conferences are to be kept to a minimum adhering to distancing requirements

Teams and/or players who do not adhere to the suggestions put forth by league and event organizers risk being refused to participate. 
These measures are being considered and adopted by volunteers who are trying to organize a sport this season that will allow participants to enjoy the game. It is imperative that all participants conduct themselves in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner. Failure to accept the necessary measures put forward by league or event organizers shall not be tolerated.

All players must abide by the following:

  • All Provincial and Municipal restrictions must be adhered to at all times.
  • All park entrants who play slo-pitch must have completed the most current Slo-Pitch National waiver.
  • All park entrants must follow all guidelines of Buhler Recreation Park PHASE 1 – RETURN TO PLAY GUIDE”.
  • What Buhler Recreation Park is doing to enhance sanitization and safety:
  • In addition to our regular routines, Buhler Recreation Park will be providing the following to ensure the health and safety of our customers:

  •  All staff will use protective gear to protect themselves and others while on premise.
  • Scheduled sanitization of all port-a-potties nightly.
  • Scheduled inventory checks of all port-a-potties nightly.
  •  Scheduled sanitization of all carts and huts nightly.
  • COVID-19 specific signage will be posted throughout the facility for players to refer to.
  • Buhler Recreation Park is moving to become a cashless facility during these uncertain times to protect our staff. We are recommending that any transactions within the park is done with your debit card (we do not accept credit cards ).  This includes gate fees. We are recommending that teams purchase gate passes before hand and to distribute them to their team members. These passes can be purchased at the gate or canteen area. For your first visit only, Exact Change will be accepted at the gate.

For your personal safety and those around you:

 · All players are to respectfully practice social distancing of 6 feet (2 metres) when possible.

· Avoid contact with others and avoid touching your face, at all times. Do not share food or beverages.

  •  Cough or sneeze into the crease of your elbow or use a tissue. Do not spit! No Sunflower seeds or chewing tobacco are allowed during this season

 · We recommend the use of face masks or face shields, and personal batting gloves, at all times.

 · We encourage players to use their own equipment. However, if sharing is required, please sanitize properly before and after each Individual use.

  • Bring your own chair

 · All players are encouraged to bring their own personal hand sanitizer.

 · A maximum of only sixteen (16) rostered players may attend each game. Players may be added to rosters online at www.slo-pitch.com We strongly recommend that no children attend games. However, if necessary, a maximum of four (4) children per team is recommended but may not be left unattended at any time.

· Players are expected to remain in their designated area with the exception of hitting, fielding, washroom breaks, and food/beverage pick up. Teams may not merge or congregate with other teams or players.

  • Following games, teams are to collect all garbage and recycling from their designated area, and place it in their respective bins.

Before coming to the facility:

  2.  If you have any of the symptoms named in the self-screening tool, you may NOT enter the facility. If you have recently been in contact with someone experiencing these symptoms, you must NOT enter the facility.

 Entering the facility:

  1.   All players are to respectfully practice social distancing of 6 feet (2 metres).
  2.  Report directly to the parking lot closest to your diamond. Entering your scheduled diamond:

  4. All players are to exit their fields from their designated area towards the parking lot using the space between the foul lines and walking paths.

Buhler Recreation Park is moving to become a cashless facility during these uncertain times to protect our staff. Social Distancing During Play:

• All players are to practice social distancing (6ft. between each player) when possible.

 • At all times, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Avoid non-game related contact with others. Do not shake hands, high-five, fist bump, etc.

 If needed, cough or sneeze into the crease of your elbow or in a tissue. Do not lick. Do not spit. No Sunflower seeds or chewing tobacco are allowed during this season.

 • We recommend the use of face masks, face sheilds, and personal batting glove at all times.

 • We recommend each player use their individual equipment. For those who choose to share equipment, they must properly sanitize the equipment before and after sharing.

 Offensive Players (Hitting):

• Offensive players may not touch the ball with their hands.

• On-deck batter must have adequate space in the dugout (6ft.) to leave the playing field if the ball enters within 6ft. of their surrounding so they can retreat to the dugout immediately.

• Base coaches are not recommended. For those teams that wish to have base coaches, base coaches must be 6ft. from all players are all time. In the case of a defensive player moving towards the base coach, it is the base coach’s responsibility to be prepared to move away from the play, to a location where they will be more than 6ft. apart from all players.

 • Offensive team will verbally report their scores to umpires following each inning.

Defensive Players (Fielding):

• The catcher will stand 6ft. behind the strike mat (and batter).

 • If contact in a defensive play is required, social distancing is immediately back in effect after the play is made.

 • No coaching conferences and group huddles will be allowed for under any circumstance.

Umpires and officials

· Following games, umpires are to leave the diamonds immediately.
